How to Care for Your Brand New Hardwood Floors

You can also make a vinegar, warm water, and liquid soap mixture (1 part vinegar, 10 parts water) if you’re on a budget.

When it comes to the actual cleaning process, here’s where the elbow grease comes in handy. Using a sponge mop, soak it in your desired cleaning solution and wring it out so that’s it’s damp and not dripping wet. Then, go ahead and mop the floor while being careful to not use too much solution. Don’t forget to rinse out the mop periodically with clean water. Once you’re finished mopping, clean up the excess water with a towel so that the standing water doesn’t deteriorate your hardwood.

If you have any scratches that are still there after cleaning, find a crayon that’s the same color as the wood and rub it on the scratched surface. After you do this, use a blow dryer to heat the area and then buff it out with a cloth.
