Our Favorite Flooring Trends of 2015 (So Far!)
Thursday, May 14, 2015
We’re about halfway through 2015 now, which has given us plenty of time to see what people have wanted (and inversely not wanted) for home flooring choices. Many consumers are looking for the cost-conscious choice that not only is enduring to all of life’s hurdles, but is also a choice that looks like it belongs in Buckingham Palace. Whatever you’re looking for in a floor, we’ve rounded up a few of the top trends we’ve seen in this half of the year.
Hardwood
Move over, Marsala, dark browns are all the rage for hardwood floors in homes for the first half of this year. Say ta-ta for now to blonde woods and other lighter colors of woods, as the darker the stain, the more popular it has become. Debbie Gartner of The Flooring Girl reports dark wood can give a home a contemporary and classic look. But just what room in a home can feel contemporary and classic with a dark hardwood installed? From kitchens to entryways, and powder rooms to even bedrooms, dark hardwoods have a place in almost every room in a home. Wood species such as hickory, birch, and acacia all come in the darkest of darks, as well as the lightest of lights, if you’re looking to go against the grain.
Luxury Vinyl
With both plank and tile options of this floor choice, it’s no surprise this flooring category is constantly expanding. We’re not talking about the peel-and-stick vinyl of yesteryear; we’re talking about a variety of flooring that mimics the enchanting look of hardwood or stone, respectively, but has the durability of vinyl. To our team, that’s a win-win situation in any busy home. This flooring choice can also do what wood and some tile options can’t: it can stand up to moisture. Because of its durability and the variety of options available, we’ve seen luxury vinyl appear in rooms everywhere from living rooms to laundry rooms, kitchens to bathrooms, and the room that needs a moisture-resistant floor the most, the basement.
Carpeting
It’s not just any carpeting that’s on the up-and-up this year; patterned carpeting is making itself known in homes across the country. And as carpeting still accounts for one of the leading sales in the flooring industry according to DIY Network, having an exceptionally bold and durable carpet doesn’t have to be hard to find. Patterned carpets can range from anything like simple lines to the most prominent of starbursts. What’s also lucky for people this year is that carpet is now more of the consumer’s choosing; you don’t just have to buy carpeting made of the predetermined materials factories provide. Whether you want a plush carpet for your feet to glide on, a carpet made of recycled materials, carpet tiles, a dense fiber that can stand up to rambunctious children and pets, or something else entirely, you can now find it easily in 2015.
We still have roughly seven months left in the year, which means there is plenty of time for many more flooring trends to emerge. But with the first hump of the year over, these are just a few of the favorite home flooring trends, colors, designs, and where they’ve been installed in a home that the Timeless Designs Flooring experts have seen and, of course, adored.
