Where to Start for a Neutral Color Scheme
Tuesday, August 4, 2015
What’s popular among home
furnishings, decorations, flooring choices, and the like, can change vastly
from year to year. However, when you’re looking for a home design that is,
shall we say, timeless, there are a
few decorating and design ideas that can be the pinnacle of style for more than
one year. While your personal flair may differ than the ideas and inspiration in
this post, a neutral color scheme never goes out of style.
For many people, the first color
that comes to mind when the word “neutral” is thrown out, is taupe or probably
beige. While almost any color can be paired with these soft hues, you aren’t
limited to decorating your home with the same colors as your parents did. Now
there is a broad range of colors that all fall under the neutral color category
— and yes, that does include flooring choices. Black, white, browns, light
grays, navy blue, deep gold (but not collegiate gold), charcoal gray, slate,
espresso, and the Internet’s new favorite color of gray mixed with beige —
deemed “greige.” Plenty of these colors have been around for quite some time, and others are on
the up-and-up. But that doesn’t mean they will only last for one season; you
just have to know how to decorate.
Start with choosing a good base for
your color scheme. Since this is Timeless Designs Flooring, it’s worthwhile knowing the flooring is a good starting
point when choosing a neutral color scheme. Besides, there are countless
flooring options that come in a wide variety of colors. Though, choosing a
neutral paint color for the walls is also a good starting point.
To prevent your home from bordering
on boring territory, being entirely done with neutral walls, floors, furniture,
and other decorations, an alternative suggestion is using color trends in
decorations or furnishings that aren’t permanent. 2015 saw the rise of Marsala, while Pantone also
announced other, bold color choices throughout this year. The self-proclaimed authority on color has had the Color of the Year range from Radiant Orchid to Emerald to Tangerine Tango in years past. So
even if you aren’t a fan of the color that’s “on point” this year, there are
sure to be other colors that will pop against neutral furniture, walls, and
floors the next year.
The best places to use these color trends? Start small at
first with things like vases, mirror or picture frames, candles, etc. Then go larger by adding in other color
trends in wall art, pillows, throw blankets — after all, it is your home that’s becoming the new
neutral. And you don’t have to make it all about one color; other, bright
colors can be incorporated as well — just make sure none of them clash.
A final piece of advice: you aren’t
limited to just one color with both the base color you choose, or accent
colors when opting for a neutral color scheme. Mix in black and white. Add in
sea foam green with your ocean blue. You can even add some taupe or beige in
there for nostalgia. With a neutral base to a home, it opens up endless
possibilities for accent colors or patterns, but most importantly, it makes a
home that will be tasteful until the end of time.

help turn your home into a haven full of neutral colors? You can always spend
oodles of time check out Pinterest,
